I'm going to say the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 is a good honest table. Better for my purposes (browsing and movies) in fact than the Nexus 9 that I recently returned in favour of the Lenovo.

Despite the Nexus 9 having an Antutu benchmark rating almost double the Lenovo's, the latter is snappier and doesn't seem to have the same memory management problems affecting the Nexus. Also no screen bleed or heat issues. I also like the Lenovo's scheduled power-off/power-on baked into the ROM. I should also point out that on mine (purchased from Officeworks), the processor is showing 1.7Ghz, whereas the published spec is 1.5.
Build date July 2015. Just bought the A7-20F. Seems that was just released whereas the A7-10 is about 6 months old. Specs basically the same, but the 20 adds rear camera to go with front (I think the 10 only has front cam). $97 from Officeworks for either.
So far very pleased with it at that price. 7' tablets just work best for me, in terms of portability when on the go. It prompted for upgrade to Android 5.0 soon after I got it, and that went smoothly. OTG USB works fine. Added 32gb microSD. AnTuTu benchmarks at ~24000. Just bought the A7-20F.

Can this play 720p videos smoothly? Browse with multiple tabs open? I wonder if the tab can read 64gb micro sd cards if you format the sd card to fat32. Most android phone which are limited to 32gb sd cards can read 64gb sd cards if you format it to fat32. Can this play 720p videos smoothly?

Most android phone which are limited to 32gb sd cards can read 64gb sd cards if you format it to fat32. The A7-20 seems to play 720p vids with no issues (off class 10 32gb SD). Google Chrome seems fine with a few tabs open.
I had heard that Lenovo tabs could handle 64gb if FAT32 but I went with 32gb so can't confirm. About half the internal storage is taken up with system and stock apps. New ones all go to SD via AppMgrIII. Stock apps can't be moved but bloatware is minimal. Thanks to Sparky767 for the Google Now launcher tip.
The Lenovo launcher was pretty minimalist and inoffensive but now the tab looks even more like my Nexus 5. Has GPS but no compass.
New to tablets. I am also looking at Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 Tablet. My wife and I will only be using when we go on holidays in oz. Just simply browsing really for info on tourism spots etc. I just need it to: Connect to our mobile phones wifi as we never use the allowance on our plans.
My wife prefers 'speak' in google search rather than type. Thats our main criteria. This tablet fine for that? Only other option is Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7' Wi-Fi 16GB Tablet but I hear the screen reso is not so good. Alternatively you could buy the Yoga Tablet 3 (10') from Lenovo direct for $359.10 (use coupon code DECWELC2015) and that is a better design and better specs and larger battery but slightly heavier. Here is the link to that tablet Got me a bit excited there, but after looking closer – the Tab 2 A10-70 10' has the better specs, – I think you may be thinking of the pro version. The version that is on special is the std Yoga Tablet 3 which only has a screen res of 800 x 1280 (149ppi) vs 1920 x 1200 (224ppi) for the Tab 2 A10-70.
It also has half the RAM. – don't think the slightly bigger battery makes up for those. Its the Yogi Pro that is what I'd be getting if I went that way, but at around double the price its in a different market altogether. I brought myself the Tab 2 A10-70 10' as a Xmas present. Though maybe an overkill as we won't be playing games on it or watching movies, predominantly just surfing I own several tablets in various sizes and operating systems. For web browsing I find the 10' size better than the smaller 8' tablets, though these smaller tablets are much lighter and a the perfect size for travel.
The Yoga 10' tablets are heavier but having that stand is really useful. You can always get a case but I'm not fond of cases on tablets, though good for protection they add bulk and are clumsy when holding tablet. A cheap neoprene case is all you need for travelling in my view.
Since JBhifi have the new range of tablets on sale you could check them out and see how they look and compare. Yes, not having 1920x1200 screen is something I missed and would be a turn off for most. However I think the Yoga design makes it still a consideration, though the previous generation would be the better pick. Android runs pretty well on 1GB of ram so that should not be an issue for casual use and with lower spec screen would also make it quite usable.
But the 10' 1280x800 screen makes it difficult to recommend. JBHifi has the latest Yoga tablets on sale.
The Yoga 3 Pro is now $678, while pricey its a very good tablet. Was hoping to hear your opinion on the tablet range. Samsung tablets are also very nice and come in nice boxes. I only checked out the Samsung (price point) as that was my other option.
JB Hi-Fi did not have much in Lenovo (nothing actually working that you could test). The Lenovo was only boxed (they call it a cash and carry line so no display). I liked the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7 (didn't see the box!) and that was working. My grandson took me through it. I remember when he was three and I found him using the mouse on our computer – when I was three a mouse run around on the floor and ate cheese! I stayed though with lenovo due to good reviews on it. My only concern is regarding the upgrading to lollipop from kitkat.
There is talk that upgrading affects wi-fi connectivity, sound issues and slowness. Anyone had similar issues on upgrading?
So if you do decide to upgrade, based on robnkel's positive experience, please will you post the outcome? I will be upgrading as soon as I've done setup, just as I do with any device as there's very often a firmware or software update released between manufacturing and when you the user get your hands on it. This is the ideal time to find out if there's a problem, before you start using it. If it causes an issue you can take it straight back and get it replaced etc. I'll let you know how mine went after friday – but I'm not expecting an issue as I've got a fair idea what those reports of problems are caused by – namely people doing a update, but not following it with a full 'hard' reset to clear the cache instead of just a software reset, (something you learn about when you play around with installing various versions of alternative firmware). This guy on the bottom of page 12 of that worked that out.
' I can also confirm that a FULL factory reset fixes both problems completely. Note that I did *not* do a factory reset through Android's interface. Rather, I booted into Recovery (from power off, hold Power + Vol.
Up until you see the menu), and then cleared data, then cache. I did this three or four times, just to be sure.' ' After doing so, it took a LONG time to start up (about 15 minutes), but has been working perfectly since then ~ do it from Recovery, not from the OS for best results.'
Ideally the update should have an auto full factory reset built in so that it does that on its first run, as some brands mostly manage to do, but not always and I've also had tablets updates with an instruction before updating, to complete a full hard recovery immediately following to finish it. Anyway I'll let you know after Xmas Turned it on, setup account and WiFi etc then straight away updated to latest available OS, restart and used it normally ever since. Did it do a fairly lengthy restart time?
– this would indicate a recovery taking place which clears the old cache. Sounds like Lenovo have added an auto reset if you didn't initialize it.
I suggest you read the post by 'Ex ISDN now' on 2015-Dec-21. This guy on the bottom of page 12 of that US Lenovo forums worked that out.

Anyway I'll let you know after Xmas Delayed posting as I thought there may have been a delay on the final update to lollipop, but as per My A10 70 had a system update when I first turned on. I installed this and I'm still only on 4.4.4.
System update app says I'm on the latest version. Shows software version now at A10-70F_20150626. Did a reboot and still the same.
I found there was an incremental A4.4 update within kitkat with some bug fixes that I applied that went very smoothly and like the others found it says I'm now on the latest version etc – no mention of a upgrade to lollipop (which doesn't bother me) Looks like then Lenovo went back to the last previous stable upgrade. Probably sorting out the issue that some had with the Lollipop upgrade.
This is very probably the right observation – I had a similar experience with my first Toshiba unit when they had a irregular problem that affected some units – they simply stopped the roll-out to all devices prevent more problems, so some got the update before it was stopped, (and some got a malfunctioning tablet that had to be re-imaged to the old ROM) Must say my tablet does all I need to do and more and if stays at KitKat for awhile then that's fine with me. Much my attitude – You buy a device with installed software, if it works 100%, then why should you expect to be updated to a later software?
Just picked up this tablet to replace my old samsung tab 3, and was wondering if anyone had rooted it, or found a custom recovery etc? Haven't even looked – done my time with rooting and custom ROM's years ago when Android was still working out the bugs, but the last couple of tablets have worked so well with the more recent versions I just don't see the need.
However if you really feel the need, there's this. Now as to the tablet itself – pretty good all round and at just under $300 makes the much dearer models seem a bit (a lot) overpriced. Not a fan of the bright game colours though – wish I could turn it down a lot more, but some people like colours artificially over-saturated – some big price tablets do it for instance, so I can't particularly blame Lenovo for this, even if I find it not to my taste, as they were criticized on the predecessor model for not having punchy enough colour. Haven't even looked – done my time with rooting and custom ROM's years ago when Android was still working out the bugs, but the last couple of tablets have worked so well with the more recent versions I just don't see the need. However if you really feel the need, there's this Thanks, that worked, and was much less hassle than the other method I found which involved installing several drivers in weird and whacky ways, then using spflash tools to push a recovery to the tablet, with the required files scattered randomly around a 25 page xda thread. Bought a Lenovo a7-20 from Harvey Norman for $94. Was looking at the Samsung 8inch for $199.
The salesman was emphatic the A7-20 was better as it was smaller and lighter in the hand. It was my preference before entering the store so I was easily persuaded. Must confess I'm seriously impressed with the device.
Very quick, no lag that I can tell, I just net surf a lot with only limited multi tasking, display is clear, bright and easy on the eye, good battery life, charges up quickly too, plenty of space for apps on board (for me at least), came with only a few preloaded apps, some good the rest deleted, the launcher is crap so get another from the Play Store otherwise no complaints at all. Still running 4.4.2 which is not upgradeable on this device so far, I'm not disappointed with that. Highly recommended, as Molly Meldrum would say, do yourself a favour. My tablet is showing an available 316mb update to 150907, that's what I'm currently on. Might be slightly different so I'll update later after work. Any of you guys stuck on the older version now seeing this new release? I'm showing a new version, however it's to 151222 (Android 5.0) on my A10 70F – so looks like you aren't there yet or you are talking about a different tablet, the A7-20?
Now as to the lollipop update, as previously said a couple of pages ago – 'I've also had tablets updates with an instruction before updating, to complete a full hard recovery immediately following to finish it.' I note that it says; 3. Key updates: • Upgraded GMS app • Upgraded UI style to blend with native Android design • Dual desktop mode • Changed theme style/] 4.
It will take about 13 minutes to startup for the first time after upgrade. Please make sure there is sufficient energy.
The storage room will decrease accordingly after upgrade 6. Please update or uninstall the applications if they are not compatable with the new system after upgrading the system. For better experience with Android 5.0, it is recommended to perform factory data reset.. Will now do the update. Report back in awhile, (severs must be busy – it's indicating 4hrs to download) added: Ok eventually downloaded – install was painless, it did a couple of restarts, then announced that Goggle Play Services had to be updated to allow things to run, did that and the requested Chrome update. Haven't manually done a factory reset, everything seems to be working correctly, so I think it was automated – I'll do one if I find any issues. Tablet reports that its running 5.0.1 – just a matter of getting used to the differences now.
The Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 is now down to $277 at Officeworks – not bad for a general purpose 10' tablet with reasonable battery life. I bought mine from Amazon with Lollipop pre-installed. I'm very pleased with it – it's replacing an HP Touchpad would you believe, which finally died (and, as luck would have it, it then woke up again after the new tablet arrived.). Minus points – dreadful speakers, and the screen is the biggest fingerprint magnet I've ever encountered. But I tried connecting a BT mouse I got cheap from DS a while back, and also connected the HP Touchpad BT keyboard, and thus the need to actually touch the screen is minimal, so it stays transparent. While I think touch screen operation of Android is vital for screens of around 7' and less, once you have a larger device on a supporting stand on a tabletop or desk, I find it easier to use a mouse than to reach forward all the time to interact by touch. So in this configuration it's like a tiny laptop – and using it with Splashtop to link to my PCs makes it look like a miniscule Windows device.
Another minus point springs to mind – the screen brightness control doesn't work (as noted by others) – but that's easily fixed by installing a 3rd party app for the purpose. Plus points – very acceptable screen, quite light and thin, superb battery life, minimal bloat. I'm looking at the 10-70 ATM. Does it come with LTE? At $299 your not going to get a quad core high res (1920x1080) 10' tablet, that also includes 4g/LTE – let's be a bit realistic. As most people in Australia* (I'd guess 90+%) are perfectly happy to tether to their phone if they require internet away from home etc.
The rather large extra cost of the LTE/4g versions of most budget tablets is generally a killer to getting a LTE model approved and sold in Aussie, so we usually don't see them for sale. *not counting Apple tablets which hardly qualify as budget tablets with their initial high price.
Well I bought an A7-20 yesterday (does anyone know how its different to the A7-10). Seems excellent for the price. Interesting to see how it compares to the Asus me176c we bought last year for $30 more.
While the screen is a fair bit worse (though definitely good enough) I'm surprised by the performance of the 1.3Ghz quad core mediatek chip. I don't know what benchmarks will say, but the lenovo is much snappier than the Asus with its 1.86Ghz quad core Atom CPU. Perhaps its the lighter skin on the Lenovo. But even so I'm pleasantly surprised by how quick this feels. Very happy with it. 5 days on a charge!
I'll take that! No that's very good even for light usage. Combined with the performance of this thing for the price, there's no way I'll be complaining. When it installs the latest version of chrome it becomes unusable. I reinstalled the tablet and it was fine until the very second the chrome update occurred.
In the meantime I'm using Firefox and not experiencing any slowdown. All other apps run fine.
99.999% of the time it's an app with poor coding that causes an issue with a tablet. Chrome is no different to any other app, although you'd think Goggle who are behind Android would do better. Over the years as a general practice I've taken to uninstalling apps on my tablets unless actually being used.
Anyone notice the A7-20 runs like crap after being in 'stand-by'mode. As in, you look away for one minute and the screen turns off. Then when you resume it's basically unusable? I did not have this issue, been using it for near 2 weeks, it perform very solid and smooth. Very best value for money compare to other, no need for 3g/4g model as I can connect to my phone for internet.
Mainly using it for web browsing, reading and light gaming. Just not sure will I upgrade to Android 5 when it is available (who knows when it will be?? Still TBA in Lenovo website). Sorry for the late reply Thanks for that tip – which prompted me to pop out and buy one (A7-20). I wanted to try it in the role of an audio hub, running Google Play Music and BubbleUPnP and various other audio apps, streaming the audio out to various AirPlay devices in the house attached to amps/speakers, using AirAudio, which needs root to intercept the audio from the apps. I've been using an Asus Note HD7 in that role but getting more audio dropouts than I would like.
Having rooted the Lenovo very easily, and installed AirAudio, I then discovered that even without using AirAudio, just playing back through the tablet's little speaker, there was something amiss with the sound, with skipping and general mangling of the audio when listening to GPM (sitting right next to a wireless access point). The culprit was the Dolby app – turning that off then rebooting the tablet gave normal playback. The next problem was that AirAudio wasn't happy at first, shifting the pitch of the music slightly and skipping every few seconds. Fortunately, choosing an option within that app to use an alternate method of hijacking the audio output completely fixed that problem, and now I'm getting very steady playback to at least three Air Play devices (Apple Airport Express units) at a time.
It's a worthwhile improvement over the Asus tablet for this purpose. All in all, great value for money, so long as the screen resolution is ok for you – obviously for me it's fine for music. Light in the hand, comfortable to hold (narrow bezels keep the overall width down). It's easy to replace the simplified Lenovo launcher with Nova or whatever you fancy, and the preloaded apps can quickly be uninstalled if you don't want them. About the only thing I'd have liked would be dual band wifi but that's too big an ask at the price.
Mine says internal and is greyed out, Mine too, hmmm [edit – also greyed out on my other android phone Telstra buzz, too, hadn't checked on my older ones.] Not going to cause issues for myself, but interesting that they've limited that specific option. What I normally do if I've purchased some tracks from google play is download them elsewhere first (ie laptop or windows phone app called 'client for Google play music' and then I can move it around without issues. Could something like that work for you? I got mine from JB, model Tab 2 A10-70F.
I got the same build number after update: A10-70F_S022_ROW what's bothering me is that I see people here upgrading without any issues but I'm definitely having issues with sound, prior to upgrading i was running kitkat 4.4.4 with no issues at all when playing movies using headphones, but after the lollipop update there is definitely a difference in sound (lots of cackling noise in the sound, especially when someone talks in the movie, NOTE this doesnt happen on ALL movies, only some movies, but prior to the update everything was fine, the same movie/TV would play without issue). Actually to be honest I haven't had a chance to test it with the speakers, but I almost never use the speakers anyway, the thing is.everything was working fine, maybe it had something to do with the update, maybe its just a coincidence that the headphone jack is screwed right around the same time i did the update, just my luck i guess lol. I still think its not a hardware issue because when i play the dolby atmos demo with my headphone everything sounded good, no distortion. I havent even installed any 3rd party apps, only VLC player and i highly doubt that would mess with dolby atmos. Ok I just got a replacement from JB, everything is back to normal, wohooooo!
I'm not even going to touch the system update this time, i only use this tablet for watching movies/TV shows while commuting to work, so it already does everything i need, no need to update for now, the way i see it lollipop doesn't offer major improvements anyway, i will probably only update if there is a MAJOR improvement or critical security patch, even then i probably wouldn't update because this tablet will be offline 99% of the time and i don't use it for web browsing. Hi, Just picked up one of the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 tablets from Officeworks. On price match less 5% with Harvey Normans $269. I've turned it on and updated twice, it's now on Lollipop 5.0.1 All good zippy tablet, charges very fast.
Looks like will be a good addition to my suite of gadgets. Still have my iPad Air 2' this will be use as a companion for the Nvidia Shield TV, probably as a remote and a way to prepare apps for instillation on the Shield. Quite impressed with this tab, was just looking for a cheapish android tab and this more than fits the bill. Considered the 7' tab 2 A10-20 but the specs for this at a reasonable price pushed me over the line.
I just got a Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70f, it's my first large tablet and I have a few silly questions. • It doesn't have the search bar at the top of every page (like my Moto G 2nd gen has). It *does* have a widget Google search, but that is in the app area, ie takes up more space.
Can I get the fixed bar on this tablet? • The pull-down notification/settings-toggles screen is narrow, like a cellphone width. Ie it feels un-optimized for the 10' tablet screen.
Is this normal? • Anyone recommend a flip case? I see a ton of cheapos on eBay, but just wondering if any suggestions:) Thanks!
Anybody know how to make the Tab2 A7-20 an Offline Media Player via OTG cable? I have been using the Nexus Media Importer to watch video from my OTG drive, but this only appears to work when connected on wifi. When offline, it tells me there is a 24 hour grace period and that the license needs to be activated online.
The File Browser that's inbuilt also only works when connected via wifi. Anybody got any suggestions? I've got a good result explaining that NMI can be activated for unlimited Offline mode; but it seems odd that my version hasn't already been activated given it's only been in a Wifi environment for the last month. Canon Clc 5151 Driver Windows 7. Any help is greatly appreciated! I bought this tablet specifically to be an offline media player.
Edit – I may just buy an SD card and bypass the Nexus Media Importer. I think I can just copy to the SD and watch directly in VLC player, does this seem right? I should be able to plug in the tablet directly into the computer to copy files onto the SD card right? Edit – I may just buy an SD card and bypass the Nexus Media Importer. I think I can just copy to the SD and watch directly in VLC player, does this seem right? I should be able to plug in the tablet directly into the computer to copy files onto the SD card right? Yep, using your preference of media player, and mine works fine for movies or audio from either SD card or ext HDD through OTG.
Nexus Media Importer to watch video from my OTG drive Sounds like this is where the issue lies – this app:) Keep it simples – just use the inbuilt file manager to find files, or the home screen shortcut for 'videos' (if you have one – mine all show up in there). Sounds like this is where the issue lies – this app:) Keep it simples – just use the inbuilt file manager to find files, or the home screen shortcut for 'videos' (if you have one – mine all show up in there) Thanks for prompt response! You are exactly right; I popped a MicroSD card in and have bypassed Nexus Media Importer – just using the inbuilt file manager and VLC. Beyond stoked that I have a sub $100 offline media tablet to use for my lunch breaks.
This tablet is incredible at this price. I think I'll ignore using the OTG because I can't seem to get that working. The inbuilt player doesn't recognize the USB when it's offline.
Using the SD card is actually more convenient despite the transfer speed being a bit slow (probably because I went cheap with the SD card). The inbuilt player doesn't recognize the USB when it's offline. Does VLC have the same issue?
I use 'power media player' on the Lenovo and 'MX player' on my old huawei, neither have this issue. Give either of those a run if VLC isn't doing it right, see if that works better. Both of them have better file browsing than the inbuilt file manager or media player [ edit – for finding videos quickly and playing them], and play more file types than the stock one apparently and either one recognises OTG drives without needing wifi. Using the SD card is actually more convenient despite the transfer speed being a bit slow (probably because I went cheap with the SD card) Yeah, don't cheap out on your microSD for videos lol – I have a 64GB samsung evo class 10 in mine, no isses at all.
Can be had for about $30 through ebay if you search. Ie for 1 example, but check buyer feedbacks before pulling trigger, there's a few fakes getting around so I'm told.
HN special no longer on special at $98. Officeworks has it for $97 (and JB has it for $99). All a dollar apart. Is very temping but the screen size too small – those who's watching movies and read books on it. What is your opinion?
My opinion is watching movies close-up is ideal on a 7 inch screen. If you are gonig to be viewing at a distance then you'd probably want something bigger. You can always check in-store. For your own privacy I'd recommend covering up the front camera, rooting the device & uninstalling all Google and manufacturer spyware on any Android device. This device is no exception. Of course I'm ready for someone to start talking about tinfoil hats despite years of NSA revelations. Especially if your kids or nephews and nieces are using the device, protect them from mass surveillance.
Mine was Kitkat – anyone know how one would disable auto update? I heard some nasty stuff about LP • What I do is I Root the device first (I used Kingoroot). Then proceeded to uninstall their junque. • I used an app called Root App Deleter (many similar apps available) to disable all the stuff they don't normally let you disable. My count so far is 78 separate items disabled. But I am extreme.
I don't use ANY Google spyware apps or Lenovo tosh • one of the many things you might want to disable is FWUpgrade • you might also want to consider installing an app that blocks net access to everything except those apps you trust. I tried AFWall+ in the past but it's not perfect.
Still hunting. If you enable text to speech, install Cool Reader and select read aloud you can save wear and tear on the old optics. I find UK English in TTD settings is better listening. I prefer visual reading to listening when it comes to books but might use it for when I'm in the car. I'm getting a $5 sleeve from the Good Guys for my tablet since it doesn't have gorilla glass. All up it's still less than a standard Kindle and I've still got 5GB left over after loading my ebooks.
The rooting tips I found in this thread were great and I've removed a lot of bloatware and the ubiquitous google apps, so thanks to the earlier posters. The wallpapers I loaded on looked terrible.
I recommended Teragon's live wallpapers, which I found randomly on the Play Store. They look great even with the low res. Has anybody purchased the Tab 3 A7-10 yet? Any substantial differences than the tab A7-20? I own the A7-20 and want another to be able to use an SD card so it's a portable offline media player for work. Is the Tab 3 A7-10 the exact same size/design? I can't find many tablet cases/gorilla glass on ebay listed for the Tab 3; but if it's the exactly the same proportions I'll just buy the Tab 2 accessories.
Chrome is running horribly on my A7-20; anybody else have the same issue? I've just been using Firefox for the time being without much trouble. I just bought a Lenovo Tab 3 A7-10/TAB3 7 Essential (Model No. TB3-710F), and my first impressions are that: 1) The screen is not very high res.
Wifi Hotspot Driver For Windows 7 Free Download. – you can see the pixels and things are a little pixelated, and 2) the aspect ratio is wrong. Circles aren't circular, and squares aren't square.
(Seems like a dumb stuff-up by Lenovo, like the software thinks it's 1024x768 aspect ratio when it's actually 1024x600). Has front and back cameras and GPS. 8G flash, 1G RAM. Android 5.0.1 after updating it.
Mostly working fine so far, although not without a couple of minor glitches (A couple of re-boots early on with no indications why. USB host mode stopped working for a while until I re-booted.) It has an FM radio too. Not only that, they've literally doubled the bezel size from the Tab 2. It's hideous. If designed well, it should add the robustness of the display to not have it so close to the edge. Though many devices today dispense with thick edges, I don't mind them.
Of course it adds to the size of the device but it's neither here nor there for me. My aversion is definitely with the blue highlighting (though most of it would be covered up in a case anyway).
Don't mind different-coloured tablets at all, but don't particularly like different-coloured trim or painted surfaces which can be prone to paint wear & make the device really look bad as it ages. So i just picked up the Tab 2 A7-20, going on what i've read the A7-10 might be a better choice but they didn't have any, they said it was a runout model. I'm pretty impressed with it considering the price. But, i go to install my favourite games from Google Play & Hay Day & Simpsons Tapped Out are both not coming up. I updated Play Store software but it hasn't helped.
It currently has Android 4.4.2 (KitKat), i thought if i upgraded it might help, but damned if i know how to. If i try going to About Tablet>System Update, it tells me 'you are using the latest version'. Or does that mean there is no compatible update for it? It means that the Device ID hasn't been added to the play store. You can download the apk using one of the web based apk down loaders and install it manually but there's no guarantee that the app will work properly.
The app may just close instantly ok thanks but would you know how to upgrade the Android system on it? I'm thinking that might help? Otherwise the tablet is going to be a bit useless to me as i'm addicted to Hay Day;) Funny thing is i have a good excuse to return it because i got it home, opened the box & the charger etc were missing & fingerprints on the screen so obviously it was a return that had not been labelled as such. I saw on their webisite that store was 'low stock please phone'. It must be a runout model as alot of other stores were out of it too. If anyone has the 7' Tab 2 A7-10 instead of A7-20, can you please confirm if the same issue is present? @jebus cripes ok i get it now, but i don't understand why that is the case.
@andy11 do you mean yet to be confirmed to be compatible for that device? I'm sure i've read in various place of people already install v5 on their devices, or could it be a preview version? Anyway i returned it, the guy said you can have it with the missing accesories for $50, it was tempting but i refused. Will look out for reports about the 10' seeing as the price is dropping & i don't really feel like paying more for a more expensive brand only to have it die on me with no solution offered from the company for what i've discovered is a known problem. (in this case Asus). A10-30 has 1gb ram instead of 2gb on A10-70 - camera is 5mp rear 2mp front vs. 8mp rear 5mp front - display is 1280 x 800 vs.
Probably why cheaper. But I want a new one, so looks like I'll have to go to JB's. Exactly what I did last Thursday.
Rang around OfficeWorks and found an 'opened' one in Box Hill that they are willing to sell it for $200. Got them to put on hold. Happened to waltz past JB Forrest Hill Friday morning.
Went in, show salesperson Officeworks website price $229 and he check his system and sold it to me at that price. New unopen box. Happy Got home, charge up the A10-70 and upgraded to 5.0.1 immediately. Picked up the 7'inch version of the Lenovo about a month back and every now and then get a message saying something about 'Exchange Server not working' but seems to function ok. Probably just a bug. If you are sure you don't use it, Exchange Services can be disabled with apps like Root App Deleter (and many others) as long as you root your device.
On the first day I got my Lenovo, this was one of the many things that was disabled so I have never seen this error. Rooting your device can be accomplished with apps like KingoRoot and probably several others. I tracked down an Officeworks with the Lenovo Tab2 A10-70 for $229 It's one of later versions with the 1.7 quad core with Kit Kat 4.4 out of the box. I've noticed that OTG USB isn't working properly, as connecting a flash drive via my current OTG cable results in the tablet indicating it's 'checking for errors' I'm going to buy a new OTG as spare/replacement, and consider updating to Lollipop 5.01 (later).
Anybody noticed an OTG USB glitch or got some advice about this? Everything else is working fine so far. Very pleasingly. My main usage will be as an in-car GPS Ditto. Anyone using a Lenovo tablet (whatever model) as a GPS in their car? I'd like to replace my tiny & aging WinCE PDA with an 8' or 10' tablet but not sure how they'd perform in a totally internet-free (GPS fix-wise) & rather 'vibratory' environment.
I'm leaning towards a Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 which at $229 from O/works sounds pretty good value. Car GPS would be it's primary function. Offline maps are not a problem as I'd be running OziExplorer & maybe Hema, not GMaps. Any feedback on options pre-purchase, performance & mountings welcome.
I picked up the Tab 3 A7-10 7' ebay purchase today, i probably saved less than i expected though by picking up seeing as petrol was a whopping $1.31 today! So far i'm impressed if just for the fact it runs games Hay Day & Simpsons Tapped Out unlike the Tab 2 A7-20 which coudn't find them in Google Play store. It also screen casts to my Samsung smart Tv which my Nexus 7 tablet couldn't even do. Its a bit heavy & gets quite hot while charging are the major down points so far, but very nice for the price;). Records GPS location I don't know about the Tab 3 but my Tab 2-A7-10F certainly has GPS.
Using Osmand it records a track with points every 6 seconds quite reliably so long as I keep the screen on. It is less reliable using Osmand's background tracking mode. Luckily it will run for a few hours with the screen on. It can take a few seconds to update the location after the screen has been off. It can take several minutes to find a location if GPS has been off. EDIT: Thanks talkative. No compass on the T2-A7-10F either.:-(.
Has anyone managed to get ethernet (wired internet) to work on any Tab 2 / Tab 3 device? I can experiment: I have bought 3 ebay USB ethernet adapters. I have tried connecting them through a USB On-The-Go Cable. This is simply my most important feature I want out of an Android device. I simply want the option of connecting WIRED like I can with a laptop. With the Tab 3, I have an Ethernet option in Settings.
It detects a plugged-in USB ethernet device. Screen just says 'CONNECTING' though. I'm missing something. I've had a Lenovo Tab2 A10-70f for some months now and have found it to be a great little tablet. I use it to replace my old Motorola XOOM. With a 1.7GHz quad core CPU, 2GB RAM and 1920 x 1200 pixel screen it is a very good performer. The screen is among the best I've seen, especially for a tablet under $250 Aud.
The sound system uses Dolby and it really shows with a good set of headphones. It is lacking an HDMI port though and has only 16GB on-board storage (this can be enhanced by adding a micro SD card of up to 32GB, so not a deal killer). But, for under $250 Aud you can't expect too much. Overall, excellent value for money, beautiful screen, nice sound, FM radio and now with Android 5.0.1 Highly recommended by a satisfied owner. Rugged case and screen protector for the lenovo tab 3 a7-10 Just picked up a Lenovo branded folio case & film from Harvey Norman for $67 list (reduced by salesman to $57). This is for a Tab2 A10-30.
I have a TAB 2 A10-70 & it fits perfectly; not sure if there were any measurement changes between Tab2 & Tab3. Before this I was using a super cheap ($8!) nylon sleeve from Target that fitted with a bit of stretching, though I tended to just leave the edge poking out of the pocket. Whoops, the A7-10 is the 7' model, right, not the 10'? Damn confusing model numbers. Have one of them too (the Tab3).
For that I'm using this one; certainly rugged, though as it's an 8' it does have a bit of slack around the edges. So I am thinking of getting a cheap tablet, and I walk past JB, and there are some in there. There is one labelled Lenovo Tab 7 on the actual device, with no price or details, and no tag on the side of the table.
I ask a guy and he points to the label for the Tab3. There are two different prices for this. I leave, confused. A bit later on I see another JB store. Exact same story. A sale lost, probably.
This time the guy said he only knows about the HP computers – that's who he worked for. I don't know if the manufacturer or the shopkeeper is responsible for this cretinous labelling. Half an hour on google later and I am still confused. So I am thinking of getting a cheap tablet, and I walk past JB, and there are some in there. Yea,I don't know why Lenovo was so ambiguous with their tablet model naming.Mine is a TAB 3 7 Essential AKA TBA 3 7 10 however both those are the current 7 ' cheapie and to confuse things some stores still have yet another earlier model with older OS on their shelves.Aside from that a great little tablet,go between office works and HN and check on the back for the manufacturing date-get the latest for $ 76. I went into get one today but I couldn't. The bezel size bothered me.
Is the A2 7' a lesser choice for $20 more? Probably not a lesser choice,it runs on KitKat AFAIK- mine runs on on LP.Some say KK is a better version anyways. What I have noticed that would really irritate me is the time on charge and the fast battery usage.
It wont worry me as I will be permanently plugged into my vehicle power, and as far as the bezel, yep I would prefer the older if I was using it for more conventional usage. If you want to use this unconnected to power,I would either take my findings on board or try and research yourself if you have concerns.
Rider: re battery usage opinion: I have several mobiles in the fam.,two other tablets,a Chromebook and a lappy. This tablet is out there in the usage/charging regime! Need help factory resting a TAB 2 A7-10 7, I think I can get into the menu to do so by holding down the power button and volume up at boot, but it's all in Chinese!!!!! Anyone way to get it in English power button and volume down?:) I have to reset it because the latested update screwed it, I have pop up boxes that everything has failed and they wont go away when clicked, just instantly comeback, I have booted it into safe mode some how and still there, only option is to factory reset it seems:( Thing is the menu is Chinese and what options do I need to use to reset??? I looked up online and found this. I used the last one number 3, it did show emmc in the menu, so that was the easiest, did the reset it's all working now turns on no error messages. Not sure what screwed up on the update, power plugged in, it didn't like something about the new update, what ever it was.
Also I did the when on power on holding the power and up volume. Just tried an update says all up to date, so all good lucky I never had anything on there I wanted, everything is backed up. Hope this helps ya. ['Just rooted mine successfully using method above everything still working. Now to workout which google stuff to remove' For anyone interested I found (imo) a better and permanent way to root than using KingRoot (if you uninstall it you lose the root which I didn't like).
Basically, I followed the guide below to unlock the bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader will reset the tab though so you may wish to backup first. For step 1 you can download an installer from here if using windows, or get files from for OSX and Linux. No need for step 3. Step 4 – 'fastboot oem unlock' sufficed. Just make sure you fully reboot your tab afterwards. Also, remember that your tab has now been reset.
From here you then install a custom recovery. For the recovery image I used the file from Tzul over at XDA (). Here is a direct link to Tzul's files and you need the img file () contained within recovery_twrp302_Lenovo_TB3-710F.zip.
Then follow this guide, starting from 'How to Flash SuperSU to Your Phone and Gain Root Access' to install SuperSU and root your tab. I then went on to install Xposed using this guide from XDA. I've got an old Asus Nexus 7 (first gen 2012 model). Would the Lenovo Tab 3 A7 be a good upgrade? Four years on, and the specs don't seem all that different to my untrained eyes. When surfing the net, the Nexus struggles to load anything but basic websites. It can usually just manage to play embedded videos, but anything more fancy and it crashes.
And am I crazy? Does the US have a different version of the Tab 3 7 than we do? All reviews (and the Lenovo US website) show that it runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but the AU one only runs 5.1 Lollipop? Not sure you are able to do what you are after.
Some of the camera apps you can set to save to SD cards. You are also able to move some of your apps to the SD card. To do this go into settings, then choose the apps option, then press the app you want to move, there may then be an option to move it to the SD card. Not all apps you are able to move though. For some reason, most Google apps are not able to me moved to an SD card. One of our whirlpool friends may offer more help than I can, I am just a hack at best!!
Well it looks like my Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 died yesterday. Would not boot up at all (no signs of life). Just before it died I saw it reboot spontaneously (nobody was touching it). I thought it was weird, looked at the battery level – was around 50%. I plugged it into charger just in case – it booted OK. Then 30 min later – just won't start. Tried holding power button for 20 seconds (with charger in and out) – nothing.
Left on charger for a while – nothing. Purchased in June 2016 from Amazon. Any suggestions on what else I can try before I get in touch with Amazon returns? I have an OTG cable and a USB ethernet adapter connected to the Lenovo Tab 3 Essential.
The problem I am having is that the Ethernet is connected but it only works for some apps but none of the system apps and google apps. What I have noticed is that I can browse the Play store but when I try to download anything it will show up as 'Waiting for Network' and doesn't download anything. Youtube is also showing 'No connection' but other apps like Google search, Firefox and Opera works. What I have found is that when I go into Settings ->Ethernet, it is showing as 'Connecting' and does not display any IP information. See below: Even though it appears to the Android OS that no IP has been assigned, I can see the IP that was assigned by the DHCP server from my router and other apps like browsers can access the internet but NOT system apps or google apps like youtube. When the Wireless LAN is connected, Settings ->Ethernet shows as 'Connected' with IP addresses assigned.
Has anyone else come across this problem? Is this an Android bug? How can I get the Ethernet Adapter to work without WiFi? I got some screenshots here if anyone can help that'll be great thanks. 20% off on the good guys ebay store, so i might pick up the tab 3 10' business.
Or the samsung, but i haven't figured out which yet. Lenovo tab 3 ($280 with discount) android 6.0 1.3 quad core 1920x1200 10.1 LCD IPS 2gb memory 7000mah battery upto 64gb external sd Samsung 10.1 Tab A ($320 with discount) android 6.0 1.6 octacore 1920x1200 10.1WUXGA TFT 2gb memory 7300mah battery upto 200gb external sd So the Lenovo has the better screen, but the Samsung beats or is equal to the lenovo in almost every other way (well it is bit more expensive but still the same price league). Picked up a Lenovo Tab 3 8-inch today from HarveyNorman for $197, which wasn't too bad.
The 10-inch costs $398 so couldn't really justify an extra $200 for the slightly bigger screen size. I went with the 8-inch as the 7-inch didn't have microSD capacity to increase storage. Looks pretty nice so far – I was upgrading from my Nexus 7 since it officially died the other day. Responsive is about the same, but does seem a little sluggish in comparison. Hopefully this may get better with some regular use. If you have a memory card in it remove the card,Ignore any error messages that will appear regarding missing card.
Just leave it out then try again. Once the install started properly I actually reinserted the SD before it finished with no problems.
Posted here post #27 I was having the same problem. I tried this after experimenting for nearly 2 weeks and it installed with no problem.
I suspect that the.zip file is downloading to the SD card but when it tries to install the system is looking for the file on internal memory instead of the SD. But because of the way Android 6 handles SD cards is what causes the problem. I've got a Lenovo TAB 2 A7-10F and I'm having trouble getting it to recognize a SanDisk 8GB microSDHC card. I've had a look at the Lenovo site and I can only see ways around getting it to see a card >32GB.
I did a system update but still won't recognize it. I formatted it on my PC but it still doesn't see it.
Anyone have any suggestions? Edit: Just found the problem. The card was not engaging properly and partly springing back out. It seems to be faulty in that I had to push it right in with a knife to get it to stay right in. Hi Everyone, Looking for a tablet for the kids for christmas. Which is better out of these 3 bang for buck? They currently have an 8 inch and the size is ok (dont want to go to 7 inch) Samsung 8' online from Good Guys (Ebay) $269.00 1.5GB Ram Quad Core 16 GB Storage (Up to 128 SD) Android 5.0 Lenovo 8' online from Good Guys (Ebay) $179.00 1GB Ram Quad Core 16 GB Storage (Up to 64 SD) Android 6.0 Lenovo 10' online from Good Guys (Ebay) $269.00 1GB Ram Quad Core 16 GB Storage (Up to 64 SD) Android 5.1 Thanks Richard.
I think I'm going crazy. I read a few days ago that Netflix now allows downloads on Android. So I update the app on my Lenovo Tab2 10' tablet & see that it is indeed so. Spot the prompts saying this arrow downloads & you can find them here. Rub my hands with glee & say to myself 'this will come in very handy for my next trip without internet'.
I didn't test at the time but a few days later I find those download arrows are all gone from where I saw them (eg on eps of 'The Crown' & 'The Expanse'; I realise it's not yet available globally). No 'My Downloads' option on the menu either. It's almost like I got another app upgrade that has *removed* the download option. Swear it was there originally on this very same device. An app uninstall & reinstall changes nothing.
Version installed is 4.12.1. Anyone else noticed this (or alternatively CAN download on a Tab2 device) or was I somehow 'seeing things'? Looking for a tablet for the kids for christmas. Which is better out of these 3 bang for buck? They currently have an 8 inch and the size is ok (dont want to go to 7 inch) Based on resolution alone, out of the 3 you listed, I'd recommend the Lenova 8'. The Lenovo 10' has the same resolution spread over a larger area, so not as good at the 8'.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 resolution is horrid. With the Lenovo 8' which has Android Marshmallow, you can configure a SD Card as internal memory and therefore put more apps on (in theory, not sure how it works in real life situations though). A better buy might be the Lenovo Tab 3 A8-50-46 8' for $188 at HN as it says it has 2 GB ram. I believe it's exclusive to HN: Also, if you waited for the next Bing Lee eBay or Good Guys eBay 20% off sale, you could get a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016 version) with way better resolution for around $300. A better buy might be the Lenovo Tab 3 A8-50-46 8' for $188 at HN as it says it has 2 GB ram.
Thanks very much for this as I am also considering a new tablet for my 10 year old. It's really between this tablet now and the Lenovo Yoga 3 8' for $198. Curious that the Yoga is advertised as having only 1GB ram, but reports online suggest it has 2GB and I checked one out at JB today which appears to confirm that (the tablet specs in the settings say 2GB – is there any way that could be wrong?) The Yoga 3 appears to be worth the extra $10 if indeed it has 2GB ram?
It appears to have slightly better processor specs and a 8MP camera – SD memory can also be expanded higher. A better buy might be the Lenovo Tab 3 A8-50-46 8' for $188 at HN as it says it has 2 GB ram.
I believe it's exclusive to HN: I purchased two of these yesterday for my children for Christmas (iPad Mini is too expensive for our 4 & 5 year). I can confirm that is does have a 2GB ROM, but doesn't have a MediaTek MT8735P Quad-Core CPU as specified on the HN Web site here: and here: It does in fact have the MediaTek MT8161P Quad-Core CPU running at 1GHz. I've added a SanDisk 64GB Ultra MicroSDHC Memory Card (up to 80MB/s) to each from Officeworks for $29.99 each. I'm happy with the performance given the price point. As per the XDA forums, there was a 5.0.1 security related OTA update released a few weeks ago. This tablet will not be getting an official Marshmallow release from Lenovo, so a lot of people from XDA are now running a MM ROM that's been adopted from a release for the A10-70L and is stable. I've been running it for about a month now on my A10-70F and it's the best it's ever been – including OOTB.
(I actually think my ROM was corrupted OOTB) More info here (page 151 onwards for the MM ROM, but be warned, not for the technically faint of heart or confidence) That said, the good thing about Mediatek chipsets is that they are very difficult to brick irrecoverably. I have the A10-70 and just did the big update.
It restarted and then went dead. Battery was 95% at the time of upgrading. I hold the on button and it eventually starts to boot up with the Lenovo screen.
That moment of expectation that all is well lasts about 10 seconds and it goes no further and goes back to an off state. I repeat this many times with power connected and the same. So for some reason my tablet has died and unfortunately out of warranty. I would be very cautious on doing the upgrade. I guess I will be buying a new one very soon.
