A few requirements are a decent amount of good included plug-ins and samples, VST support, soundfont support, and a good piano roll. I used to use cracked Live 9 witch I loved.
But that doesn't work any more. Since it's just for fun, I really can't justify spending ~$600 for the standard version of Live. The options I know of are Sonar and Reaper, but there might be more. I'm mostly in to Rock/Pop, Orchestral stuff, and some electronic music. Edit: Reaper seems to be the most frequently mentioned one, so I'm gonna give the demo a try.
Logic was also mentioned by many, but I don't have a Mac. I'm currently using FL studio, but it's just not for r me. I appreciate all the comments and suggestions. Edit 2: Okay, I just tried reaper a little, and it seems great so far, the layout reminds me allot of Live, which is great. My favourite thing about live was the whole as few windows as possible' thing, and reaper follows that pretty well. For $60 it's a definite buy for me:) • • • • •. I'm using FL studio at the moment (cause it's easy to crack, lol) I like the piano roll, and it comes with lots of great plugins, but it may just be me, but everything in FL studio sounds very 'electronic' to me.
That's probably not a bad thing if you're making electronic music, but ~50% of the time, I'm trying to emulate real instruments. Ableton on the other hand is also great for electronic music, but when you are trying to emulate acoustic, it sounds much more convincing. Ironic, because Ableton is usually heavily associated with dubstep and stuff like that. TL;DR: FL studio is great and probably has the best bang for buck, but it seems to favour synthetic sounds a bit to much for my liking. Yep, there are utilities that can provide a workaround, but Logic still can't load a VST. I mentioned that internal hosts are available (patchwork, MB7 v2, Magma, MetaPlugin, etc) in another comment. They're not quite wrappers, since they don't alter anything or create a wrapped version- they act as hosts within a host.
I find MetaPlugin really useful for some things like splitting to multiband and doing more complex parallel processing, but I would hate to rely on it just to host VSTs that aren't available in AU or AAX format. Windows Xp Professional Sp3 Activation Crack on this page.
